5 Reasons You Don’t Need Alcohol to Have Fun

One of the biggest worries that people have when quitting drinking is the concern that they won’t be able to have anymore fun. This is just blatantly not true. Having fun without alcohol is not only possible, it’s actually more likely.

1. You can have more genuine connections without alcohol.

What kind of fun are you really having with your friends if everyone gets so drunk they don’t even remember what happened the next day? Are you really having some deep friendship or relationship if you don’t even remember when you are with this person?

Being sober allows for deeper and more genuine relationships. You will actually be aware so you can listen to the other person and connect with them on a deeper level. Or have even more fun together because you won’t be completely wasted.

2. You don’t have to worry about who’s driving.

I remember when I was in my twenties. There was always the question of “how am I going to get home?” And if you did get an Uber or a cab, you had to worry about how you were going to get your car the next day or if it would be safe wherever you left it. When you don’t drink, you never have to do this “looking for transportation and worrying about my car” shuffle again.

3. You don’t have to worry about hangovers.

Hangovers are the worst. And they get worse the older you get. How nice is it to wake up every day and not have a pounding headache or feel completely dehydrated or just generally feel like dying? It’s basically amazing.

4. You get to be more creative.

Anyone can just go to the bar and get wasted. That’s so boring. Why not go bungee jumping? Why not go bowling? Why not go play mini-golf? Why not stay home and bake a cherry pie? There are a million fun things to do that involve a little more creativity than just going out and getting blasted. For ideas of fun things to do, try looking on the internet.

5. You don’t have to worry about puking.

Here’s a big perk for me! It’s so nice to not have to worry about getting sick and embarrassing yourself. It’s so nice to not have to worry about throwing up in the backseat of someone’s car. It’s so nice to not have to shove yourself in the bathroom of some dive bar or some stranger’s house for hours. You end up missing a lot of the fun you’re supposed to be having anyway.

There are a ton of ways to have fun and be sober if you are just willing to get a little bit creative. The important thing to remember is that you don’t need alcohol to have a fulfilling life and great relationships.
